Richard Hudson arrived in Dunedin and opened up his first biscuit bake house. All of a sudden, cups of tea had never tasted so good.
Most would stop after a booming biscuit business. Not Mr Hudson. The confectionary legend opened what we reckon was the Southern hemisphere’s first chocolate and cocoa manufacturing plant.
1930 was big. Phar Lap won the Melbourne Cup, NZ beat the British Lions and Mr Hudson and Cadbury teamed up to make New Zealand’s first bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk milk chocolate. The sweetness had landed.
Now on a roll, Cadbury introduced the classic Jaffa, much to the chagrin of cinema ushers across the country.
The super soft and fabulously fluffy Pinky Bars floated their way out of the Cadbury factory for the very first time. No delivery truck required.
1967 - It was the summer of love – delicious chocolatey love. Cadbury Moro made its first appearance on Kiwi shelves. It proved so popular that it remains one of the top bars in the country today.
