How To Use
How To Use Essano Scalp Refresh Shampoo
Massage into wet hair and scalp, leave for 1-2 mins, then rinse. Repeat if hair is extra oily or has product build up. Follow with essano™ Scalp Refresh Conditioner.
I have a really itchy and dry scalp, I must use a anti-dandruff shampoo all year long.
I have tried this shampoo for a few weeks and can say it works well as my dandruff didn’t appear again.
I feel that the shampoo doesn’t smell anything though but for a shampoo, it doesn’t matter so I will still buy it.
I like a conditioner that smell nice thought so will use a different conditioner.
+ PROS: -100% pre-used, recycled material that’s also still recyclable
-bottle easy to
-works in the way that my scalp wasnt itchy during the time I used it
This shampoo was used in combination with the matching Essano conditioner & left to air dry for the final results shown in my photo. I didn’t love the scent like the skincare products but it isn’t horrible & definitely an improvement on the smell of other anti-dandruff brands.
Like all the Essano products I found a little goes a long way & for my medium-long hair I only used 2 pumps of shampoo on a good day, 3-4 on a really oily day if I skipped a wash.
I don’t generally get dandruff but if I wait too long between hair washing I do get a little bit & an itchy scalp so after using it normally for a week I deliberately waited most of a week to get my hair really oily & had no flakes or itch so I would call this a success
+ PROS: A little goes a long way
No mess pump dispenser so you get the same amount every time
No itchy scalp even when hair left too long between washes
- CONS:Didn't like the scent
I don't have dandruff so can't test this feature properly
This has a really nice minty smell, definitely has helped with my dandruff and itchy scalp – but has also made my hair feel very dry! I am struggling to decide if I am happy to put up with dry hair so that I can have a lot less dandruff and not be itchy. Overall I like the product but would be even happier if it didn’t dry my hair out.
+ PROS: Nice smell
Great value
Has really helped my dandruff
Scalp isn't itchy
My daughter and I loved our soft and silky and frizz controlled hair after washing with this shampoo and the matching conditioner. We normally use a frizz controlling product after showering otherwise for the first day after shampooing our hair is too frizzy for our liking. We didn’t have to use the extra product while using this shampoo which was great. Not a sign of dandruff using these products. Normally we have to be quite careful with the product we use and will sometimes swap back to head and shoulders for awhile but it does well at controlling it. It applies really easily. Generally don’t like pump bottles though as you can never use the last of the product in the bottle. Didn’t think the smell was very nice, especially given the mandarin deodorant product smell in the deo and the pleasant smells in the face products. But the smell didn’t hang around afterwards so that was fine.
+ PROS: Controls curly hair frizz!
Leaves hair feeling soft and silky.
Controls dandruff.
Applies and foams nicely without using heaps.
Smell is mild and doesn't hang around in your hair.
- CONS:The smell is not nice.
The pump bottle.
The price is expensive for a shampoo.
Nice smelling shampoo that cleanses quite strongly: this appeared to strip a lot of moisture from the hair so has to be used with a conditioner (I wouldn’t use as a stand alone product).
+ PROS: Comes in a pump bottle which makes it easy to use.
- CONS:Quite pricey and left my son and husbands short hair very fluffy.

Another product that I’m really enjoying. I just love the smell and the feel of this product. The only thing (as with the conditioner) that stops me from buying it again is the size of the bottle. When you have long thick hair and you double shampoo, you need big bottles so that you are not having to restock all the time. I also found the pump to be a bit too limiting. I use a lot of shampoo so found myself stood pumping in the shower for too long.
+ PROS: Smells great, feels great, love the look and the feel of the bottle.
- CONS:Doesn't pump enough out for the amount I like to use. Bottle a bit too small for my hair type too. I like bigger bottles so they last longer.
Seemed to do the job! Didn’t irritate my husband’s very sensitive scalp, and seems to work as well as his usual anti-dandruff shampoo. My teenaged son thought it smelled and worked ok, too. Neither my daughter nor I liked the smell, however – smells too much like cleaning products!!
Not a fan of the pump lid, however the clip would be good if you had to take it travelling (or had an inquisitive toddler in the house).
This has helped in conjuction with conditioner to help my dry scalp, great pump bottle, but I assume it’s going to be a pain to get the last of the product used up. I do tend to wash twice as I don’t get a great lather the first time
+ PROS: Helping my dry scalp
- CONS:Price point and the possibility of not being able to utilize the full product once you get to the end of the bottle, washing twice to get a good lather
My hair is very picky as the scalp can be dry and flaky yet the hair can be oily and heavy. I have only ever found 2 shampoo and conditioner brand that works perfectly on my hair, unfortunately, those are NOT it.
I haven’t had flaky scalp for a couple of years but switching to this shampoo instantly brought the flake back. Though not as bad as the majority of other shampoos on the market, only some flake at the front, but still not living up to my standard. It’s called anti-dandruff, one would have hoped for no dandruff.
The conditioners will have its separate review but I would like to briefly mention here that it makes my hair greasy much faster than my current hair routine.
I also don’t like the smell. For a product with natural ingredients, it smells a lot like many of the chemical filled shampoos on the shelf. I’m so used to the gentle smell of my shampoo bar, I don’t like it. But it fades fast so I don’t mind it too much.
The only pros would be that my hair looks great right after drying up, which doesn’t usually happen.
+ PROS: Hair looks great after it's dried up.
- CONS:Actually give me dandruff.
Doesn't smell good to me.
I loved this product & the conditioner the most out of all the products in the essano box. After only 3 washes, the results were clear that the product does what it says it does. My scalp felt refreshed & my dandruff prone hair soft & silky. I had some scale but after just 5 uses, my dandruff has nearly gone. Very happy.
+ PROS: Natural. Recycled bottle. Great smell. Leaves hair feeling soft & silky. Soothing to an itchy scalp. Reduces dandruff effectively & fast.

Leaves my scalp feeling refreshed and it did tackle the mild dandruff I had. Lightweight and wasn’t too heavy for my hair. Unisex fragrance.
