Maggi’s “mushroom sauce” packets used to have some mushroom flavour in them, but not anymore. We needed 1 packet before, then we started needing to use 2 packets just to get more flavour, and now, there’s no mushroom flavour in it whatsoever. I don’t know if Maggi nerfed the ratio’s of ingredients or what, but now it just tastes like onion dip to us. I can only assume it was either 1) a bad batch or someone got it mixed up with onion dip, 2) it was deliberate and they’re trying to reduce costs, or 3) they don’t use real mushroom powder, but rather, imitation “mushroom stock powder”, because as the packets age, if you’re using an imitation mushroom-like powder, it won’t taste mushroomy anymore. My advice? Get some real “Portobello mushroom powder” and add a teaspoon or two of it to this packet to get a real mushroom flavour – because these Maggi mushroom sauce packets no longer have any mushroom flavour in them. The packets are a great price, but they don’t give you a strong mushroom sauce flavour – and since it just tastes like onion dip now, what is the point??
+ PROS: Great price
- CONS:Doesn't taste like mushroom sauce
Tastes like onion dip - especially as the packet nears expiry, indicating they most likely use imitation mushroom stock powder instead of real mushroom powder
Requires real Portobello mushroom powder added to it to get a real mushroom flavour
