Cooked the Waitoa chicken drumsticks on the bbq. Cooked it slow and a bit longer to make sure it was cooked through. Delicious smoky flavour with the right amount of heat. Quick and easy for a simple, tasty and easy meal when in a rush to put food on the table. Great meal option for the upcoming summer bbq season. Yum.
+ PROS: Convenient and flavourful.
- CONS:Could be a bit smoky/spicy for the sensitive.
Southern style rub, packet said “sweet and smoky” but we found the rub to be a bit too spicy instead of sweet. It took 45 minutes to cook in the oven at 200°C- which is longer than normal drumsticks. The rub was a bit too thick and made a messy stain on fingers if eating BBQ style. Sadly the quality of the meat was poor – hardly any flesh and stringy – so not our favourite.
+ PROS: Can be cooked in oven or BBQ. A spicy, smoky rub rather than sweet.
- CONS:Quality of chicken poor. Left orange stains on fingers and clothes.

I don’t usually eat bone in chicken as I find it hard to judge when they’re cooked. I found these drumsticks similar – they took ages to cook and was hard to judge when it was actually cooked (we had to put it back in for longer than the recommended cooking time) Maybe would have been better on the BBQ?
They tasted good but had a wee spicy kick to them that I wasn’t expecting with a BBQ flavour.
Also seemed to have quite a thick chicken skin on them – which personally I’m not a fan of.
+ PROS: Good flavouring
Good sized drumsticks with decent amount of meat on them.
- CONS:Spicy for BBQ
Took ages to cook
